Postdoctoral Fellowship in Professional Psychology (one year)

Training in a Level I Trauma Center and safety net hospital

About Our Program

Welcome to the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship Program website. We appreciate your interest in our variety of fellowships and hope that you will find the following information useful as you search for prospective programs.

The HCMC Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship offers three tracks, which include an Adult track, a Child track, and a Primary Care/Health Psychology track. Our training setting offers fellows the opportunity to work with an ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse patient population. In addition, being part of a large teaching hospital and level I trauma center provides many unique training experiences.

The mission of the Postdoctoral Psychology Fellow Program at HCMC is to prepare fellows in the theories and techniques of assessment, intervention, and consultation necessary for an entry-level, professional psychologist position. This experience builds on skills developed during internship, moving towards being prepared for independent psychological practice. The program adheres to the local clinical scientist training model. Over the course of the training year, fellows are expected to perform in a progressively more independent manner. In accordance with our mission statement, the practice of psychology is guided by the theoretical and empirical knowledge base of the discipline.

Only students from APA-accredited or CPA-accredited graduate programs and APA-accredited or CPA-accredited internships are accepted. HCMC fellowships are one year, full-time positions with the expectation of 2000 training hours.

Salary and Benefits

The fellowship year begins approximately two weeks before Labor Day (usually the last two weeks of August) with two weeks of orientation. The stipend for the training year is $48,000. Benefits include health insurance and 28 days of PTO (Paid Time Off), which provides paid time off for absences due to any reason including vacation, illness, holidays, doctor appointments, professional conferences, dissertation defense and personal business. Also available are life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and subsidized dental insurance. As a fellow, you would get discounts on metro passes, gym memberships, medications at HCMC pharmacy, care at HCMC, etc.
