Children's Literacy Program
Healthier Lives Through Reading
The goal of HCMC’s Children’s Literacy Program is to connect young patients and visitors with books because children who read lead healthier lives. Sharing books and stories is a great way to drive language development and brain growth, both of which support success in school and in life. HCMC incorporates literacy promotion into healthcare delivery whenever, wherever we can, via four signature literacy projects. We distribute more than 30,000 children’s books annually, beginning at birth and continuing through adolescence.
We know that books provide: Amusement, Brain Building opportunities, and Comfort. This special notion of ABC has helped the Children’s Literacy Program grow from one location, the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic, to more than 35 hospital departments and community clinic locations, identified as Book Nooks.
For more information about the program contact HCMC’s Children’s Literacy Liaison, Lynne Burke, at 612-873-8954 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Contribute: Financial contributions enable us to get the most books for your bucks. Donations fund our entire book budget. Generous sponsors supported our work last year by providing funds or new books. We also accept gently used book donations when our storage space allows.
