Pamela A. Vaughn, NP
Pam Vaughn has been with the Division of Nephrology since 1974. Initially she worked in the Acute Dialysis Unit in "General Hospital". In 1976 she worked as a nurse practitioner overseeing patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis treatments. She was initially trained by the nephrologists at Regional Kidney Disease Program and then attended the nurse practitioner program at the University of Minnesota. She is certified as a nurse practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center as well as certification with the Nephrology Nursing Certification Board. She is also a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Pam works in conjunction with the nephrologists serving HFA and HCMC. Pams major area of interest has been the care and education of clients with chronic kidney disease. Until 1997 she worked primarily with patients undergoing hemodialysis. In 1997, she started the chronic kidney disease education clinic. Pam believes that specific patient education and good communication can play major roles in reducing the loss of kidney function.
