Dr. Svetaz completed her medical school training and internal medicine residency in Argentina. She received an adolescent medicine fellowship at the University of Minnesota in 1998 and completed her masters in public health, with a focus on maternal and child health, from the University of Minnesota in 1999. She completed additional residency training in family medicine at Regions Hospital in St. Paul in 2001. Dr. Svetaz is board certified in family practice and adolescent medicine.
She has worked at a local clinic as a primary physician focusing on adolescents from 2001 until 2007. She joined the Hennepin County Medical Center Department of Family Medicine in 2007. She was instrumental in creating the WSCHS Aqui Para Ti Youth Development Clinic for Latino adolescents and their parents. In 2001, she participated in drafting the Consensus Statement on Health Care Transitions for Young Adults with Special Health Care Needs which has now been approved as policy by the boards of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine.
She has published research on learning disabilities and emotional disorders in the Journal of Adolescent Health, and she has made numerous presentations about her work with adolescents. She was a member of the Minnesota Immigrant Health Task Force. She is currently serving her fifth year as a Board Member of the Minnesota Organization on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Parenting.
Dr. Svetaz is also an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
