Clinical Expertise

Dr. Solakian received her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She completed her pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the North Chicago VA Medical Center and completed her post-doctoral training at the Washington DC VAMC. Since becoming a licensed psychologist she has worked as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Washington DC VAMC Substance Abuse Recovery Program where she conducted group, individual and couples therapy.  She has also worked as a Compensation and Pension examiner conducting mental health evaluations for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.

Dr. Solakian's approach to therapy is largely humanistic and integrative.  She believes that her role is to provide support, information and guidance, collaborating with the patient to establish and accomplish their treatment goals. Dr. Solakian is a generalist in adult psychology with a special interest in co-occurring disorders, complicated grief and couples therapy.
