Dr. Silkensen grew up in both Minnesota and Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency, followed by a nephrology research fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He underwent further specialty training in transplantation as a faculty member at the University of Florida. From 2000-2005, he was a member of the Division of Nephrology at HCMC. He is pleased to be back in the Twin Cities to serve as Medical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program at HCMC.
His primary interest is kidney transplantation, with a particular emphasis on medical complications and ethical issues involved with transplantation. He also has a strong interest in acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease progression.
