Volunteer in Groups
The Food Shelf
The Food Shelf at Hennepin County Medical Center is a hospital-based food shelf, one of only a few nationwide. This program provides healthful groceries and nutrition education to families within the state's largest safety-net hospital and clinic system. Inventory, pack, and distribute healthful groceries to patients and families. In 2014, more than 55,000 patients benefited from this hospital-based food shelf!
Greeting Cards for Patients
Make greeting cards for patient meal trays. Bring supplies to make greeting cards with general uplifting messages (get well, have a happy day, feel better soon, thinking of you…). We will arrange the group activity in the purple skyway of the hospital.
Read to Kids!
Volunteer with the Children’s Literacy Program to distribute books and read with kids and ensure that waiting areas throughout the hospital are stocked with a rich variety of reading materials.
Community Events Volunteering
Put a group together to volunteer in the Community. Events are organized by HCMC and take place throughout the year. Please contact us to learn more to schedule your group!
Volunteer as Individuals

Welcome/greet all with a friendly smile to the medical center.Escort patients and families to their destination.Interact with patients and families in public spaces. Be ready to identify the need for problem solving or service recovery when necessary. Partner with our Welcome Services staff as necessary.
Host the hospitality carts throughout HCMC campus. Each cart will be stocked with seasonal and appropriate snacks. Give snacks and beverages to employees, patients and their families, and other guests on campus. Your services help us focus on our Patient and Family Centered Care at HCMC. Your organization will sponsor the event and we will provide signage all throughout the campus to promote your organization.
Employee Engagement Portals
Your company is likely one of the many civic-minded workplaces that encourages you to volunteer. Check with your community engagement coordinator or human resources department to learn if your company uses a web-based employee engagement portal to register your volunteer hours and contributions to nonprofits. Your company might even match your contributions.
If your company plans to commit at least 25 hours of service per year, we will on-board you as a corporate volunteer.
