PGY-4

Jennifer Wu, DO

Medical School: Des Moines University
Residency: Internal Medicine, Hennepin County Medical Center
I chose HCMC because it is a program with a passionate team of staff nephrologists with a strong focus on teaching trainees, residents, and fellows. The hospital has a very diverse patient population with many patients with renal disease. It has provided me, first as a resident and now as a fellow, with the opportunity to provide nephrology care to a largely underserved, underinsured, and international patient population.

I was drawn to the Hennepin County Medical Center Nephrology Program for many reasons, the greatest was because of its clear commitment to fellow education and the enthusiasm for teaching of its staff nephrologists. Hennepin County Medical Center also offers a wonderfully diverse patient population as well as the opportunity to work with the undeserved which I find very fulfilling. Over all, I felt this program would be the best in preparing me for independent practice.

I chose to go into the field of nephrology as I find its complexity and scope of practice both challenging and rewarding. I decided to train at Hennepin for fellowship based on the fact it has fantastic nephrology staff that are dedicated to teaching and patient care. I also found the program to be very balanced and offering great exposure to all areas of nephrology.
