The Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery offers comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for diseases of the ear, head, and neck. The Voice Disorder Center evaluates patients for problems with speech and swallowing, particularly after injury or surgery relating to the head and neck.

Evaluation and Treatment

  • Tumors and cancers of all organs of the head and neck
  • Repair of facial trauma and scars
  • Diagnostic and foreign-body treatment of:
    • airway
    • bronchi
    • esophagus
  • Correction of jaw and facial-bone disharmonies, including those related to temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ)
  • Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Medical allergy and rhinosinusitis
  • Access to comprehensive audiologic services for all ages (newborn to geriatric)
  • Diagnostic audiologic assessment,including:
    • behavioral measures
    • brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP)
    • otoacoustic emission (OAE)
    • immittance measures
  • Hearing aid evaluations and fittings, including:
    • programmable
    • digital
  • Vestibular services, including:
    • electrony-stagmography (ENG)
    • canalith repositioning maneuvers

Subspecialty Areas

  • laser surgery for snoring
  • Microsurgery of the airway using CO2, YAG and argon lasers
  • National and investigative protocols in therapy of head/neck cancer
  • Multidisciplinary team approach to restorative surgery after major facial injury or cancer surgery, with integration of prosthetics and microvascular flaps
  • Phonosurgery, immediate voice restoration after cancer surgery, and voice-disorder diagnosis
  • Stroboscopic laboratory, with video and still-photography capability
  • Hyperbaric medicine for:
    • radionecrosis of facial bones
    • wound healing
    • life-threatening infections
  • Evaluation of children for hearing-based learning disabilities
  • Evaluation of adults for familial hereditary hearing loss
  • Endoscopic sinus surgery, including:
    • laser sinus surgery
    • repair of complicated CSF leaks
